What does a school board trustee actually do?
A Pflugerville ISD Board of Trustees member sets district policy, approves the annual budget, hires and evaluates the superintendent, and represents the community in major district decisions. Chevonne's current roles are summarized in the Board Roles section.
What is the Board President's role?
The Board President is the highest elected officer of the school board, selected by fellow trustees. The president represents the board publicly, facilitates effective governance and lawful decision-making, and helps foster a collaborative board culture focused on student outcomes and academic opportunity.
How does the school board affect my child's classroom?
The board makes decisions that shape budgets, staffing, student support services, policies, superintendent leadership, and the long-term direction of the district.
How is PFISD funded?
PFISD is primarily funded through state per-student funding, local property taxes subject to state law, and federal grants. School boards manage local budgets and press state lawmakers for adequate school funding.
Why does state advocacy matter for a local school board race?
State lawmakers control major pieces of school funding, accountability, safety requirements, and local decision-making authority. How can families speak to the board?
Families can attend board meetings, submit public comments under district procedures, contact trustees, and participate in district committees or campus advisory groups. Chevonne has supported expanded public comment access so more voices can be heard.
